At our recycling transfer facility in Darlington waste comes onto the recycling area where we sort it into different categories such as wood, cardboard, metal, soil, hardcore and rubbish; each category then goes to its individual area for further recycling.
Any wood that comes in gets chipped and is used in power facilities; metals sorted into ferrous and non -ferrous to be recycled; cardboard/paper is compacted and baled for reuse; hardcore is crushed on site to a Type 1, 6F5 or 75-40mm Clean material for reuse.
The subsoil is reused for restoration projects.
We are constantly implementing new ideas and practices to lower the amount sent to landfill, we pride ourselves on our recycling abilities.
